21. Yüzyılda devletler sosyal medya gibi modern iletişim metodları ile uyumlu bir şekilde kendilerini ulusal ve uluslararası alanda ifade edebilmek adına yeni diplomasi yaklaşımları ve modelleri kullanmaktadırlar. Bu araştırmada gastrodiplomasi kavramı, gıda ve gıda bağlantılı unsurların topraktan tüketime kadar uzanan süreçte kültürel, ekonomik, siyasi ve sosyal yönleri ile kullanıldığı yeni bir diplomasi biçimi olarak açıklanmaktadır. Gastrodiplomasinin kamu diplomasisi, uluslararası halkla ilişkiler ve kültürel diplomasi alanları ile ilişkisi ele alınmakta ve dünyadan örneklere de yer verilerek ekonomi, ticaret, ulus markası, yumuşak güç, kimlik, iletişim, tanıtım, diyalog ve iş birliği boyutları ve bunların potansiyelleri incelenmektedir. Bu bağlamda bir gastrodiplomasi modeli ve tanımı önerilmektedir: Bu model "gastrodiplomasi uygulayıcısı" kurumlar tarafından gerçeklenen çok boyutlu bir yapı öngörür. Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Devleti kurumları ve Türkiye"de bulunan sivil toplum kuruluşları arasından uygulayıcı olabilecek kurumlar belirlenmekte, ve bu kurumların faaliyetleri, web sitelerinin incelenmesi ve Bakan ve/veya üst düzey yöneticileri ile yapılan derinlemesine görüşmeler vasıtasıyla değerlendirilmektedir. Bu değerlendirmelerin sonucunda Türkiye"nin, tanımlanan çok boyutlu gastrodiplomasi modeli bağlamındaki durumu tespit edilmekte ve Türk kamu diplomasisi için gastrodiplomasi önerileri sunulmaktadır. ; States in the 21st century are employing novel diplomatic approaches and models to express themselves on national and international platforms in compliance with modern communication methods such as social media. In this study, the term "gastrodiplomacy" is described as a novel diplomatic approach that considers cultural, social, political and economical aspects of food and food-related constituents with regards to their complete "crop-to-consumption" processes. The relationships of gastrodiplomacy with public diplomacy, cultural diplomacy and international public relations are investigated, and regarding recent international cases, the potential of gastrodiplomacy for creating benefit in nation-branding, soft power, identity, communication, publicity, dialogue, coordination, economy and trade is studied. Within this context, a gastrodiplomacy model and definition are proposed: The model considers a multi-dimensional structure that is realized by "gastrodiplomacy actors". Accordingly, the gastrodiplomatic "due diligence" in Turkey is conducted by identifying potential actors within the govermental bodies and among the nongovernmental organizations and evaluating their activities by means of investigating their institutional websites and via in-depth interviews with Ministers and/or senior executives. Based on the results of these evaluations, recommendations for realizing the full potential of gastrodiplomacy within Turkish public diplomacy are proposed.
